A war on five fronts

Battlefield 6 is DICE's return to modern all-out war: 64-player combined arms, destructible sandboxes and a class system that trades total freedom for clear squad roles.

In 2027, a coalition of private military forces known as Pax Armata turns on its NATO paymasters. The campaign follows a NATO response team across North Africa and the Mediterranean; multiplayer picks up as sleeper cells activate across the United States and the wider world.

The package splits four ways. All-Out Warfare is the classic sandbox: Conquest, Breakthrough and Rush on 20 maps. Tactical strips vehicles and shrinks the fight to infantry-only objective play. REDSEC is the free-to-play battle royale and Gauntlet front. Portal hands you the rules, the era and the map logic to rebuild modes yourself.

Progression is shared across it all: one rank ladder, class assignments, field specs, weapon XP and a seasonal Battle Pass. Nothing essential to competing is sold — new maps, weapons and vehicles arrive free.

State of play — 20 October 2026: Season 5, Siege of Vegas, is live with Vegas Strip and Area 51. The Dead Space crossover runs until 10 November, when the Casino Heist drop adds the European Casino map.

How to read this index

Size, domain, flow

Battlefield 6 maps are built around lanes. Knowing which lane a map prioritises is worth more than knowing its layout.

Size · M

Tactical

Infantry-led, three to five flags. Fights recycle every 20 seconds; audio and flanking win.

Size · L

Combined

Armour and air matter, but cover lets infantry cross. The classic Battlefield shape.

Size · XL

Sandbox

Long approaches, vehicle-dependent. Spawn on a transport or you walk for a minute.

Domain

Naval

Water is a third dimension. Boats and amphibious armour decide which flags exist at all.

Rotation note: 64-player Conquest runs the full roster. Tactical playlists restrict the map pool to M-size maps and cut vehicle spawns entirely, so a map that feels open in Conquest can play like a corridor in Tactical.

Attachment doctrine

Build for the map

Attachments trade one strength for another. Pick the trade that suits the lane you actually play.

01

Optics before barrels

A 1.5× or 2× optic wins more fights than a muzzle attachment. You cannot hit what you cannot identify at range.

02

Underslung matters

Grips cut horizontal recoil; lasers cut spread. On close maps take the laser, on open maps take the grip.

03

Suppressors cost range

Every suppressed barrel loses velocity and damage falloff. Use it to break the minimap trail, not to win duels.

04

Mag size is a trade

Extended magazines slow your reload and add weight. If you reload behind cover anyway, skip them.

Squad roles

Know your class

Battlefield 6 returns to four fixed classes, each with a signature weapon, a signature gadget, a passive trait and two Field Specs. This page covers what each one actually does in a match.

4 classes 8 field specs 3 perks per spec Signature traits active

Assault is the class that makes an attack happen. It is the only class that can trade a gadget slot for a second primary — shotgun, DMR or carbine — and its toolset is built around getting through a wall, a window or a locked door without waiting for anyone. If your team is stuck at a chokepoint, this is the answer.

R

Rally Squad — class ability

You and nearby squadmates gain a temporary adrenaline effect. Kills extend its duration on you.

Always-on passives

Signature gadget
Adrenaline Injector

Boosts sprint speed, cuts explosive and incendiary damage, resists flash and stun, and sharpens enemy footsteps. No bonus health.

Signature trait
Mission Focused

Faster arming, disarming and capturing for you and nearby squadmates.

Signature weapon
Assault Rifle

Faster draw and recovery after sprinting, so you fire first out of a push.

Field specs — one at a time

BreacherDemo & entry
  1. 01Carry one extra grenade.
  2. 02Less movement penalty when firing on the move.
  3. 0315% faster reload for the incendiary shotgun and grenade/breaching launchers.
FrontlinerAssault 2
  1. 01Squadmates deploying on you get a temporary Adrenaline effect; also applies when deploying from a beacon.
  2. 02Reduced fall and jump impact damage.
  3. 03Faster and earlier passive health regeneration.

Assault gadgets

Assault Ladder
DefaultDeployable

A folding ladder to reach rooftops and windows that would otherwise need a vehicle.

X95 BRE
Rank 7Breaching

Flashbang breaching launcher. Blinds a room, then opens the wall.

M320A1 HE
Rank 17Launcher

Anti-infantry high-explosive rounds. Your answer to a stacked corridor.

M320A1 THRM
Rank 44Launcher

Thermal rounds that see through smoke and punish camped interiors.

Deploy Beacon
Assault 1Spawn

Single-use spawn point for you and each squadmate. Place it behind the point, not on it.

SS26
Expert 1Shotgun

Bolt-action incendiary shotgun. Slow cycle, brutal close-range damage.

If the enemy has a tank and your team does not have an Engineer, you have already lost that lane. Engineers carry the rockets, mines and launchers that make armour cautious, and they are the only class that can repair friendly vehicles, equipment and emplacements. On an infantry-only map they are close to dead weight — so swap.

T

Thermal Overdrive — class ability

Repair Tool efficiency rises by 50% for ten seconds. Emergency triage for a tank under fire.

Always-on passives

Signature gadget
Repair Tool

Repairs friendly vehicles and equipment; overheats if held. Can damage enemy assets as a last resort.

Signature trait
Mechanised Infantry

Less explosive damage near friendly vehicles, and enemies cannot steal a crewless vehicle. Repair to keep both effects.

Signature weapon
SMG

Improved hip-fire control while you move around vehicles and objectives.

Field specs — one at a time

Anti-ArmourVehicle killer
  1. 01Carry two extra rockets.
  2. 0215% faster launcher reloads.
  3. 03Damaging a vehicle cuts its repair efficiency by 50% for ten seconds.
Combat EngineerEngineer 2
  1. 01Repairing a friendly gadget permanently raises its maximum health.
  2. 02Heat build-up on gadgets and vehicle weapons is 50% slower.
  3. 03Occupying a damaged vehicle starts regenerating its health.

Engineer gadgets

MBT-LAW
DefaultLauncher

Auto-guided anti-tank launcher. Tracks a locked target at medium range.

M15 Mine
DefaultMine

Anti-vehicle mine. Place it on the road line, not in the open.

SLM-93A
Rank 3Anti-air

Lock-on launcher for helicopters and jets. Useless against ground armour.

RPG-7V2
Rank 13Launcher

Unguided rocket. Highest direct damage, no lock and no forgiveness.

PTKM-1R
Rank 27Mine

Acoustic sensor mine that strikes the top of a vehicle — the thinly armoured side.

M4A1 Slam
Rank 37Mine

Infrared tripwire mine. Denies a lane without needing a direct hit.

EOD Bot
Rank 40Remote

Remote robot that repairs or destroys vehicles and arms or disarms M-COMs.

MAS 148
Rank 47Launcher

Long-range anti-vehicle launcher for open maps and ridge lines.

M136 AT
Specialist 1Launcher

Self-guided anti-vehicle launcher. Fire, forget, reposition.

Vehicle Supply Crate
Engineer 1Support

Resupplies nearby friendly vehicles and speeds their equipment cooldowns.

Support absorbed the medic role in Battlefield 6 and became the most self-sufficient class in the game: ammo, health, revives and deployable cover in one kit. A squad with a competent Support can hold a flag indefinitely; a squad without one runs dry after two fights. The LMG's signature bonus — faster aim-down-sights and no sprint penalty — makes it far more mobile than it looks.

A

Aid Station — class ability

A mobile supply source for ten seconds. Revives speed up dramatically while it is active.

Always-on passives

Signature gadget
Supply Bag

Deployable bag that resupplies ammo and gadgets and improves nearby health regeneration.

Signature trait
Field Sustainment

Teammates who interact with you receive health packs. Revives are faster than any other class.

Signature weapon
LMG

Faster transition into ADS and no sprint-speed penalty while carrying the weapon.

Field specs — one at a time

Combat MedicRevive focus
  1. 01Allies can interact with you to take a health pack.
  2. 02Reviving starts your own health regeneration immediately.
  3. 03Defensive gadgets gain durability and range.
Fire SupportSustain focus
  1. 01Faster ammo resupply cooldowns.
  2. 02Better control of mounted and emplaced weapons.
  3. 03Extended suppression effects on enemies under your fire.

Revive mechanics — read this

Drag to coverStart a revive near danger and you can drag the downed player somewhere safer. Dragging is slower, but the revive keeps its progress if you have to break off and come back.
DefibrillatorThe fast revive. A fully charged defib brings a player back at full health; a partial charge revives with less. One charge can revive several players.
No-revive ruleFatal headshots cannot be revived. Neither can players killed by certain unrevivable effects — do not sprint across open ground expecting a medic to fix it.

Support gadgets

Supply Bag
SignatureResupply

Ammo and gadget resupply plus faster health regeneration for everyone nearby.

Defibrillator
Core kitRevive

Charge for a full-health revive. Also a surprisingly effective last-resort weapon.

Deployable Cover
Core kitFortify

A fold-out barrier that turns an open lane into a held lane. Place it before the fight, not during.

APS Interceptor
Core kitDefence

Shoots down incoming grenades and missiles within its arc. The counter to a grenade-spam choke.

Smoke Grenade
Core kitConcealment

Blocks sightlines for a revive or a crossing. Thermal optics still see through it.

Recon is not just a sniping class. The motion sensor, drones and designators feed the whole team's minimap, and C4 turns a stationary tank into a wreck. The sniper's signature bonus — hold breath to steady, faster rechambering — rewards patience, but a Recon who never moves off the ridge is a wasted slot.

U

UAV Shadow — class ability

A personal UAV that mirrors your movement and automatically spots enemies in its radius.

Always-on passives

Signature gadget
Motion Sensor

Detects moving enemies, vehicles and gadgets nearby and displays them to you.

Signature trait
Auto-Spot

Looking at a hostile through your sights spots them for the whole team. No button press.

Signature weapon
Sniper

Hold breath to steady aim, and rechamber faster between shots.

Field specs — one at a time

SniperLong-range control
  1. 01Faster, wider and longer-lasting auto-spotting.
  2. 02Torso hits reveal the target and halve their healing.
  3. 03Headshots create unrevivable downs.
Spec OpsStealth & sabotage
  1. 01Quieter footsteps at walk and crouch speeds.
  2. 02Reduced detectability by enemy sensors and spotting.
  3. 03Faster interaction with enemy equipment and objectives.

Recon gadgets

Motion Sensor
SignatureDetection

Throws out a pulse that marks anything moving. Stationary players stay hidden — use it to clear a building, not a field.

Recon Drone
Core kitIntel

Remote camera and spotter. Park it above a flag and the whole team sees the push coming.

C4
Core kitDemolition

Sticky explosives. The cheapest way to kill a tank that has stopped to repair.

Laser Designator
Core kitTargeting

Paints a vehicle so allied missiles track it. Requires a teammate who is paying attention.

Recon discipline: a spot is worth more than a kill. One designator lock plus an Engineer's launcher removes a tank that would otherwise cost your squad five deaths. Play the information, not the scoreboard.
Field Spec rules

How specs level

Field Specs are per-match progress. They reset every round, so earning them is part of the round, not a permanent grind.

STEP 01

Earn score

Captures, revives, repairs, resupplies and kills all feed the spec. Playing your role levels it faster than farming kills.

STEP 02

Unlock perks

Each spec has three tiers of passive perks. They stack on top of your class passives.

STEP 03

Fire the ability

The final tier grants the spec's active ability for a short window. Save it for the push, not the approach.

Combined arms

Vehicles & armour

Tanks, helicopters, jets, boats and light transports — plus what actually kills each of them. Vehicle play in Battlefield 6 is about crew roles and angles, not solo rampages.

5 vehicle classes 3 approaches Repair by Engineer only
Crew2–3
Main battle tank

MBT

Turreted 120 mm/125 mm gun with coaxial MG, smoke and a top-mounted machine gun. Front armour resists rockets; rear and top do not. Reverse speed and repair timing decide most tank duels.

Best vs Infantry, light armourWeak Top attack, C4
Crew2–4
Infantry fighting vehicle

IFV

Autocannon plus anti-tank missiles and a passenger bay. Faster than an MBT and able to drop a squad on a flank. The autocannon shreds helicopters; the missiles need a steady lock.

Best vs Air, infantryWeak MBT front
Crew2
Attack helicopter

Attack Heli

Pilot rockets and gunner cannon in one airframe. Altitude is survival; hovering is death. Requires two players who communicate — a solo pilot is a transport with a target painted on it.

Best vs Armour, infantryWeak AA, jets
Crew1–2
Fighter / attack jet

Jet

Fast mover with cannons and guided ordnance. The top speed makes strafing runs a timing problem: line up, commit, extend. Flares are a cooldown, not a shield.

Best vs Air, armourWeak AA net, missiles
Crew4–6
Patrol boat / amphibious

Naval

Armed patrol boats and amphibious transports. On Tsuru Reef and Wake Island, boats are not a ride — they are how a flag becomes reachable at all. Exposed crew, heavy guns.

Best vs Infantry, transportsWeak Rockets, shore guns
Crew1–4
Light transport

Transport

Jeeps, quad bikes, armoured cars and helicopters. No armour worth mentioning, but they turn a 90-second walk into a 15-second flank. Use them, abandon them, do not park them on the point.

Best vs DistanceWeak Everything
Vehicle hunters

Kill the machine

Armour loses to preparation: a mine on the retreat lane, a rocket in the engine deck, a laser lock from a ridge.

Hard counter

Engineer rockets

MBT-LAW and RPG-7V2 hit hardest. Aim at the rear or top; front armour eats the damage.

Area denial

Mines

M15 and PTKM-1R on the resupply route. A tank that dies reversing is a tank that never supported the flag.

Team play

Laser + missile

Recon designator plus a guided launcher. Two players, one dead tank, no exposed reload.

Infantry trick

C4 drop

Recon C4 on a repairing vehicle. Cheap, quiet and decisive on streets where rockets over-penetrate.

Crew rule: vehicles regenerate health only when occupied and not critically damaged, and only Engineers can repair. A tank with no Engineer nearby is a one-way trip — dismount, repair, remount, or accept the loss.

01

Conquest

64 players · All-Out Warfare

Capture and hold flags to bleed the enemy's tickets. The full sandbox: tanks, jets, boats and every class. Winning is a logistics problem — keep more flags than the enemy and stop feeding kills.

Objective · Attrition
02

Breakthrough

64 players · All-Out Warfare

Attackers take sectors in sequence; defenders hold them. Tickets are finite, so every death costs the attack. Smoke, spawn beacons and one coordinated push beat twenty solo rushes.

Linear · Attacker/defender
03

Rush

32 players · All-Out Warfare

Arm or defend pairs of M-COM stations, then fall back to the next line. Smaller teams, tighter maps and the most explosive-dense mode in the game. Engineer and Assault do the heavy lifting.

M-COM · Two stages
04

Escalation

64 players · All-Out Warfare

A tug-of-war over a single front line. Objectives unlock in sequence and the battle rolls back and forth. The mode most likely to produce a 40-minute grind — bring a Support.

Push · Momentum
05

Domination

24–32 players · Tactical

Three flags, no vehicles, fast respawns. Pure infantry flow built for SMGs, shotguns and constant rotation. If you want to practise gunfight mechanics, this is the mode.

Infantry · Rotation
06

King of the Hill

24–32 players · Tactical

One contested zone that moves. Everything collapses into a single room or courtyard, which makes it the best mode for learning breach-and-clear with a squad.

Single point · Choke
07

Team Deathmatch

16–32 players · Tactical

First team to the kill target. No flags, no vehicles, no excuse. Spawn control and map knowledge decide it; the scoreboard is a distraction.

Kills · Map control
08

Squad Deathmatch

16 players · Tactical

Four squads, one winner. Revives matter more than kills: a squad that trades 1-for-1 wins by keeping its Support alive. The most punishing small-team mode.

Squad · Survival
09

Obliteration

32 players · All-Out Warfare

One bomb, three M-COMs, no fixed spawn. The bomb's position creates the fight, so vehicle transport and map reading matter more than raw aim.

Bomb · Mobile objective

Carrier Strike

64 players · Naval

Season 4's naval mode: carriers offshore, islands contested, boats and amphibious armour as the only route between objectives. Introduced alongside Tsuru Reef and Wake Island.

Campaign & REDSEC

A nine-mission single-player story about a PMC that turns on its paymasters, and a free-to-play front that carries the same gunplay into a battle royale.

9 missions 5–6 hours Free REDSEC

The campaign

In 2027, Pax Armata — a private military coalition grown too powerful to control — turns on the governments that hired it. You play a NATO operator working the Mediterranean and North African theatres, from armoured pushes through desert towns to night raids on fortified positions.

The campaign is nine missions, roughly five to six hours on a normal difficulty, and it leans on the same destruction, vehicle sections and squad AI as multiplayer. It is a straightforward, linear military thriller rather than an open-world sandbox — closer to a Battlefield 3-style tour than a Bad Company comedy.

StructureNine linear missions across three theatres: North Africa, the Mediterranean and a final European operation.
DifficultyFour tiers, from story-focused to a realistic mode where a couple of hits ends the mission.
CollectiblesWeapon crates, intel documents and challenge objectives are tracked per mission; replay any mission from the campaign menu.
Multiplayer linkNone required. The campaign is a self-contained story and does not gate multiplayer unlocks.
Worth playing for: the destruction tech and the vehicle set pieces. If you want to learn how tanks and helicopters handle before taking them into Conquest, the campaign is a free tutorial with a plot.
Battlefield 6 REDSEC key art

REDSEC

REDSEC is the free-to-play Battlefield: a standalone download with a 100-player battle royale and Gauntlet, a squad-versus-squad objective race. It uses the same weapons, vehicles and destruction as the main game, with its own progression and Battle Pass.

Free to play100 playersSquads of 4Standalone
Battle royaleDrop in, loot weapons and gadgets, survive a shrinking ring. Vehicles spawn in the world, so rotations are loud and contested.
GauntletTwo squads race through a chain of objectives. Faster and more tactical than BR; revives are everything.
ProgressionSeparate REDSEC Battle Pass and challenges. Owning Battlefield 6 does not unlock REDSEC gear, and REDSEC is not required to enjoy the main game.
SettingsSame aim, audio and graphics options as the main game — carry your sensitivity settings across.
Season 5 event: the Dead Space crossover incursion is a 16-player PvE mode running until 10 November. It is a limited-time playlist, not a permanent mode.
Field notes

Play better

Ten habits that separate a squad holding three flags from a squad respawning at the edge of the map — plus the settings worth changing before your first match.

10 habits7 settingsBased on 2.1.1.0
01

Spawn on the point, not on the fight

Spawning directly into a contested flag drops you into crossfire. Spawn one flag back and walk in from the side the enemy is not watching.

02

Play the class the team lacks

Four Recons on a tank map lose. Check the squad list at deploy: no Engineer against armour, no Support on defence, no Assault on attack — be the gap.

03

Smoke is a movement tool

Smoke does not win the fight, it buys the crossing. Throw it forward, not on yourself, and move the moment it blooms.

04

Never repair in the open

A tank under fire in the open is a wreck waiting to happen. Reverse behind cover first — an Engineer's repair is worth more on a hull that survives.

05

Hold, do not push, when outnumbered

On defence, the flag is the objective, not the enemy spawn. Cross the map and you gift them the point you were holding.

06

Ammo before kills

Support players should drop a Supply Bag the moment a fight starts, not when someone asks. A resupplied squad wins the second engagement.

07

Listen for tracks

Vehicle audio is directional and loud. In a building, the sound of a tank track on the street tells you which window it is not covering.

08

Spot before you shoot

Recon auto-spot and a quick mark help the whole team. A spotted tank is a dead tank; an unspotted one kills a squad.

09

Destroy the cover, not the wall

Destruction changes lanes. Collapse the shopfront a squad is using as cover and their position becomes a kill zone — you do not need to enter.

10

Revive in cover, then heal

Drag a downed teammate behind a wall before the defib. A revive in the open costs two tickets, not one.

Before your first match

Seven settings

Do not copy someone else's sensitivity. Change the settings that remove noise, then tune aim to your own hand.

Field of viewRaise it on PC — 90–105 horizontal is the usual range. Higher FOV shows more of the lane but makes distant targets smaller.
Aim sensitivitySet one base value and tune the ADS multiplier separately. If you overshoot targets, lower it by five and play three matches before changing again.
Motion blurTurn it off. It hides the frame you need to see during a fast turn.
Chromatic aberration & film grainOff. Both add noise to the exact detail — a helmet at 150 m — you are trying to spot.
Audio mixUse the "war tapes" or wide dynamic range option only with headphones; on speakers, a compressed mix keeps footsteps audible.
Network statsEnable the performance overlay while learning a map. If your ping spikes during vehicle-heavy fights, lower graphics before blaming the netcode.
Sprint behaviourSet sprint to hold or toggle to taste, but enable auto-sprint on consoles — it keeps your thumb free for the camera.

Nineteen as of Season 5: eight from launch and eleven added across five seasons, including the frozen Empire State variant. A twentieth, the European Casino, arrives on 10 November with the Casino Heist drop.
Is Battlefield 6 crossplay?
Yes. PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S play together, with matchmaking options that let console players stay within their own platform group.
Do new maps and weapons cost money?
No. Seasonal maps, weapons and vehicles are free. The Battle Pass sells cosmetic items and currency, and there is no paid advantage in the gunplay.
What is REDSEC, and is it free?
REDSEC is the free-to-play Battlefield front: a standalone battle royale and Gauntlet mode with the same gunplay and vehicles. It is a separate download and does not require owning Battlefield 6.
How long is the campaign?
Nine missions, roughly five to six hours at a normal difficulty. Collectibles and challenge objectives push completion time higher.
Is there a ranked mode?
Battlefield 6 launched without a competitive ranked ladder. Progression is account-wide, and seasonal playlists have carried competitive variants since launch — but the headline experience is unranked All-Out Warfare.
What is the current season?
Season 5, Siege of Vegas, live since 13 October 2026. It added Vegas Strip and Area 51, the Dead Space crossover event, and the Season 5 Battle Pass. Casino Heist follows on 10 November and Frozen Aces on 8 December.
Can I play it on PS4 or Xbox One?
No. Battlefield 6 is built for current-generation hardware and PC only, which is how the destruction and 64-player maps stay within frame budget.

Corrections: balance passes change numbers between patches. Where this manual describes a weapon's character rather than exact stats, it is because those numbers are not stable across updates.
